New Release – Star of Bethlehem

Paul Zueger unveiled a new piece of Gib’s at the 2012 Santa Fe Indian Market.  It’s an abstract Mother and Child, and it’s already a favorite of many collectors and gallery staff. The piece exemplifies Gib’s trademark elongation and contains both compelling geometry and powerful symbolism.

The piece is actually from Gib’s archival collection that’s just now being released. “Way back then, nobody seemed to like my abstract stuff,” he said. “But now it’s becoming popular, and I’m really happy that some of those old pieces are coming out of the closet and getting poured, because they’re some of my all-time favorites.”

When asked why a “Mother and Child” was named Star of Bethlehem, Gib answered simply, “Who was the first Mother and Child we all know of?”

“I love the composition of the piece,” he said. “And the balance is just perfect. You can see how Mary’s hip and leg have shifted to support the weight of the baby Jesus. The circle is her breast, which symbolically feeds the world. I think there are just enough details hung on there to tell the story, and I didn’t want any more than that.”

The April 2012 issue of the Gib Singleton Newsletter is hot off the press and ready to download. This issue looks at Geronimo, one of Gib's heroes and Gib's newest western piece. On page 2, Gib tells the story of the 1972 attack on Michelangelo's Pieta and the restoration that ensued.

Celebrate Gib's 77th Birthday!

Hey, you guys! I'm turning 77 in June and to commemorate this grandiose event the gang has just released a new piece, Self Portrait, in an edition of 77. It's really cool.

Hey, you guys! "From the Earth" (the film my pal Rob Reid made about me) premiered at the Vail Film Festival last weekend. I think that’s pretty cool. (Especially because as an artist you usually have to be dead to get them make a movie about you and I’m not there yet!)

So, if you missed the premier in Vail, check the movie out online on Rob Reid's site:

The April 2012 Issue of the Gib Singleton Newsletter

The February 2012 issue of the Gib Singleton Newsletter is out and available for download. This issue looks at Compañeros, one of Gib’s personal favorite Western pieces, and at his penchant for including “found objects” in his sculptures. Click through here to read it.

Hey, You Guys!

The first edition of ‘Geronimo’, my newest western piece, came out of the foundry last week, and I have to say, I think it’s pretty cool. Geronimo has always been one of my heroes. He was smart and tough and a hell of a fighter for his people. I think in a lot of ways, he was the last great warrior of the American West.

BEST SCULPTOR OF THE WEST - Gib Singleton

Hey, You Guys! True West Magazine named me “Best Sculptor of the West” in their annual Best of the West Source Book.

My pal Johnny D. Boggs also won the Readers’ Choice for “Best Western Historical Novel." How cool is that? Thanks True West!
